unjustifiable 15 June 2010

After 38 years the families of those killed on Bloody Sunday in Northern Ireland got the validation they so deserved long before this. The killings were ‘unjustifiable’ and the people innocent. For those of you unfamiliar with the event, the British army opened fire on a Civil Rights protest in Derry on January 30 1972, killing 14 civilians (6 of whom were just 17 years old). The reason given was that the soldiers had been fired on (they had not) and afterwards a sustained campaign of sullying the dead ensued with reports of them being armed (they were not) etc. Now, after nearly 40 years, the truth has been acknowledged. What a wonderful day. It has been too long coming but it is great to have lived to see it.
