Let it be known that I do not normally lick my knife (ref last night’s blog) and would regard such activity as basically bad table manners, not to mention dangerous – those of you following my antics while filming the last (and, sadly, final) series of JAM AND JERUSALEM will know that I was keen on Miss Maggie Steed cross-stitching helpful samplers bearing the advice ‘never lick a steak knife’ rather than the usual trite nonsense you get on such things. It just happened that I did lick my knife as I was explaining my background properly to Richard and that was because there was a lovely bit of marrow still attached to it. I think the only other time I would contemplate this action is if a knife had runny, smelly cheese on it…and no one was looking…
