bully 11 January 2010
Don’t know why I thought of this today – must’ve been something in a paper or whatever – but I encountered very little bullying when I was at school. I remember being a kid and a neighbour (a lad, now a totally LOVELY man!) giving me grief cos he thought I had been mean to his little sisters (don’t think I had, by the way, but kids, hey?). I didn’t encounter violence and I don’t remember anyone being picked on in the street or at school. I was certainly in the top classes all the time at second level (though I wasn’t the smartest gal in the place by any means, that fell to a girl in the next class along who got stonking results and is a very high flying doc of some sort now, I think) and our class could have been a hotbed of competition and bitchery but it was not. And I never heard of it from the other schoolrooms either. We were largely a happy lot, to be honest, whatever our academic abilities. Perhaps I was/we were lucky? But to all the girls in all the classes of my year – well done us, we were lovely! And I guess a big shout out to our teachers too – they must have run good class/school…
