a truly shit day 10 November 2008
Well, sometimes things just get a hold of a day and turn it to shit. Today, after an ordinary enough start came the news that there is an issue with two VERY short quotes in the latest novel – both of which have been in every version of the manuscript since it was submitted but no one picked up on them and now there’s a major panic about copyright for both of them – 10 words in all between the 2, by the way. With this weighing on me I went out to get dinner at the supermarket and had unloaded all onto the belt by the cash register when I realised I didn’t have my purse anymore. 3 options there – either I had left it at home, lost it on the way or it had been stolen. In the meantime, let me add a few other details – turns out the gas cooker has been connected all along but my favourite ring (and the only one I had checked) isn’t working anymore, for some reason, so I needn’t have had my microwave adventures (feel like a total idiot about that) and I had taken out 100 euro in cash earlier, most of which was still in the missing purse. The rain was lashing down as I trudged home, VERY close to tears, but happily there was the errant purse on the bed where I had left it. Good: a break. Still had to go back and get the shopping. Did that. Got drenched on the way home. HAve now dried out but am still massively unhappy about the book situation and can only hope for a good resolution that won’t compromise it.
Two good things today, though – my friend Rosie and her lovely partner Robin had a much wanted baby – their dearest wish has been to have a child and, now, against all the odds, they have = huzzah for all 3 of them.
According to my accountant, I seem to be in line for a tax rebate so I can maybe afford the cupboards I hadn’t budgeted for.
Roll on tomorrow (if it thinks it’s big enough)
